Retreat Program

It is an annual program of the department which serves as a platform for introspection and review and identifying methodologies for better administration. This program is a recurring event, organized since 2001, and aims to improve administrative processes within the department. It occurs at two levels, the regional level and the state level. In the regional level, field level staff from warders to junior level officers participate and discuss and deliberate upon ideas given to them related to prison administration, prison security, welfare of the prisoners and welfare and wellbeing of prison staff. Guest lectures from the personnel in renowned areas are invited and staff are briefed on various issues not only specifically related to prison but also important areas of general relevance.

In the state level program, all the senior level officers of the department meet in cordial environment and exchange views with each other, plan strategies in brain storming sessions and execute them. The final recommendations/ suggestions are submitted to the government for implementation. Some of the recently discussed and deliberated topics include: Strengthening Security, Staff Discipline and Welfare & Discipline, Drug de-addiction in prisons, Women and Children in prisons, Futuristic Prisons, Use of Technology in Prison Administration.
