Central Prison, Cherlapalli is located in the Cherlapalli Industrial Zone of Medchal district. This is the largest Central Prison in Telangana State. This prison was constructed during the year 1999 and 2000 and was inaugurated by Sri N. Chandra Babu Naidu, then Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh, in June 2000. The authorized accommodation of the prison is 1,980, and the average lock-up of the prison is between 2,100 and 2,200.
There are around 25 high-security blocks, UT blocks, CT blocks, admission blocks, and factory units. All blocks are named after important rivers in India.
