Classification

Prisoners are segregated and housed separately based on various criteria:

• Female prisoners are kept in designated areas and guarded by female staff.
• Habitual offenders are separated from casual and first-time offenders.
• Convicted prisoners are housed separately from remand/under-trial prisoners.
• Adolescent and young prisoners are separated from older prisoners.
• Detenues and civil prisoners are kept in different areas.
• Notorious and hardcore prisoners are confined in high-security barracks or prisons.
