District Jail, Karimnagar

This Grade II Sub Jail in Karimnagar was originally built in 1897 during the Nizam’s regime. Later, it was upgraded to a District Jail in 1980, with an authorized accommodation of 99 prisoners at that time. However, the jail is consistently overcrowded, housing more than 300 prisoners. Additionally, due to a lack of space, more than 200 prisoners from the erstwhile Karimnagar District are lodged at Central Prison, Chanchalguda. Similarly, about 40 women prisoners are accommodated at the Special Prison for Women, Chanchalguda, Hyderabad.
