District Jail, Nalgonda

This prison was constructed in 1916 during the Nizam’s regime and housed a number of freedom fighters. Short-term prisoners are kept in this facility, while those serving terms exceeding six months are sent to central jails.

After the formation of Andhra Pradesh, it was downgraded to a Grade-II Sub Jail. Previously, the Superintendent of the District Headquarters Hospital also served as the Superintendent of the prison. However, in 1980, a separate post of Superintendent, in the cadre of Deputy Superintendent of Prisons, was created.

The Collectorate is located 3 km to the east, while the District Headquarters Hospital and court buildings are situated 1.5 km to the north. The Police Headquarters (D.P.O.) is located 2 km away, towards Hyderabad.
