Prison Industries
Work program is very important in the reformation and rehabilitation of the prisoners in all the central prisons, open prisons, and district jails. In this regard, prison industries were set up by the prisons department in all these prisons with a vision to empower the prisoners by imparting vocational training, skill development and to create more employment & livelihood opportunities post-release and provide sufficient wages during their sentence period.
Steel Furniture Unit
All the central prisons and district jails have steel furniture fabrication units. Many prisoners work on manufacturing dual desks, almirahs, steel racks, tables, cots, chairs, and computer tables. The furniture is supplied to schools, colleges, and government offices.
Weaving Unit
Many skilled and semi-skilled are working for making of bed sheets, towels, & cloth for Prisoners wearing purpose for supply to all Jails in Telangana State and making of colour bedsheet, colour towels, napkins, lungies for commercial sales to general public and supply to Government Hostels, Sports Schools and Police Training Centres etc
Durry Unit
Prisoners used their skills in making of Pitloom Durries for prisoners & jail staff bedding purpose which is supplied to all jails in Telangana State. Handloom durries with best quality and standard are also made here. Banthi pattas and door mats are made for commercial sale to general public.
Soap Unit
Prisoners are engaged in making of toilet soaps & washing soaps for prisoners purpose and the same is supplied to state & central government institutions as per their requirement. Recently making of washing powder with best quality was started for commercial purposes.
Phenyl Unit
In this unit, prisoners are working for making of Black Phenyle for all jails sanitation supply purpose and Scented Phenyle is also supplied to Private, State & Central Government Institutions like Hospitals, Hostels, Colleges as per their requirement. Glass Cleaner, Floor Cleaner, Toilet Cleaner, Hand wash etc. are also manufactured and sold in the market.
Carpentry Unit
Skilled prisoners are making Teak Wood articles like Tables, Chairs & Others for Government & Private purpose as per their requirement.
Tailoring Unit
In this unit, 30 prisoners are working for stitching of prisoners clothing & bedding articles supplied for all Jails in Telangana and also stitching of Patient Operation Gowns, Coats, Uniforms for many public hospitals and government institutions.
Dyeing Unit
In this unit, prisoners are working for dyeing of yarn for making colour bedsheet, colour towels, colour napkins.
Printing Unit
In this unit, book making & binding work is being done to make all the records, registers and file pads, tokens for canteen and telephone (usage in prisons) used by the department. Printing of temple darshan tokens and Prasad tokens are also made in this unit.
Nursery Unit
Prisoners are actively engaged in rising nursery of plants and saplings for afforestation and plantation purpose and supply to the municipal corporations and forest department.
